I really thought I was going to buy some fabric this week. I was even planning the fine details of my shopping trip, like — which shop, how many yards, and what colours. But then I didn’t go. I don’t know why.
It was very helpful that it snowed Thursday and Friday because I don’t like to drive in the snow. But even before the weather changed, I was reconsidering my plans.
I think that these stash reports have done me a world of good. Now I am thinking carefully about my purchases, and the idea of just buying fabric for the fun of it has lost its appeal for me. When I really, truly need something to finish a project…I’ll go shopping then.
I haven’t been sewing this week, either, so no change in my stats:
- Bought Year-to-Date: 24.875 yards
- Used Year-to-Date: 149.875 yards
- Used (net): 125 yards

Happy Quilting!

You were good — I didn’t resist the temptation to shop for fabric online. I really need to get to work using some more up!
Ahhhh, to be able to not buy any fabrics and feel great about it!! I have purchased some fabric this fall but I need to get the quilt pieced before planning any more. I have found that it is so satisfying to not impulsively shop and have a stash of fabrics without a plan.
Merry Christmas!
Great job on your ytd usage. It is encouraging to find out that reporting usage has changed our purchasing habits. However, even before I was doing the stashbusting reports, I would open up my stash closets to look at what I had before I went to any quilt shop or show. I was hoping that the mere looking at the stash would help. It did, but not as much as reporting.
I’m looking forward to the challenges in the new year, including the “too good to cut” challenge. I have my fabric picked out, it’s on my design wall and I am thinking about what to do.

Great numbers. I know the feeling about shopping for fabric, I have been resisting shopping for more fabric this month. I have 2 quilts I want to start, but deep down I know I need to finish some UFO’s.
You have the right idea about stash reports–buy when you need it, not when it’s just a “want”. I am getting better, but sometimes I still hear fabric calling me………
You have done a great job of using stash this year. You should be proud.
Snow can squash the shopping urge for me too. Some days I just want to stay home and sew.
