I live in England, I’m married, and I have two daughters. I’m “not from around here”, as they say locally…originally from Texas, USA, but have lived here for many years with my lovely English husband.
My mother always sewed, and she taught me how to make my own clothes when I was in the 8th grade. I became interested in quilting in 1993 when I took a beginner’s class at a little local quilt shop. In the years since, I mostly collected fabric and patterns and started projects that never got finished.
A few years ago, I decided to try and change my ways, and I started a blog to use as a quilt journal about my UFOs. However, I find that I am still easily tempted and distracted by the latest patterns and techniques, so now I’m keeping track of my new projects as well as my unfinished ones. I also like to write about the sewing machines in our family collection. My two daughters sew now and have their own machines.
Happy Quilting, and thanks for visiting me!

Hi! I’m in love with quilts; not so much with quilting myself. I’m much better in the design than in the execution of the work itself. I also have problems staying on track as I, too, am so attracted by new fabrics and projects. Two stores make my husband so nervous that he tries to keep me away: bookstores and fabric stores. But my reason to comment was that you ask if anyone was in the Blue Birds when they were little. My eldest daughter, who is probably nearer your age, was a Blue Bird just long enough to get the uniform. Then she lost all interest. She turned out okay, though, and is now a professor at the University of Utah, and has two children. Happy sewing/quilting in 2009.
Hi Alice, thank you for visiting my blog. I enjoyed reading your comments! It sounds like your daughter has turned out “okay” indeed!
Wow, you must be very proud of her! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Take care.
With all the snow closing down just about everything around here in Northampton I thought I’d look at some blog’s and having read your think I better get sewing not reading !
Three quilt meetings were closed last week, and even todays has been cancelled.
I am fairly new to making a blog and yours is so professional, if you have any tips for me I’d appreciate all the help I can get.
Happy Room Diana
Hi Diana, what a lovely compliment on my blog — thank you so much! However, I have just been to visit your blog, and I think it is truly wonderful! You don’t need a bit of help. I am very impressed with the quality and *quantity* of your work! I love it how you call your sewing room your “Happy Room” — that is also the name my 7-year-old daughter and I chose for the combination sewing and play room that we share. Great minds travel the same path?
Thank you for visiting me. Take care.
wanted to respond to your comment on my blog about what a BOB is … a BOB is a bag of blocks – something that is not a true UFO as it is not a started quilt top or project just a bag of blocks.
thanks for the comment on my blog – love your scrappy quilts.

Aha! Well, I’ve got BOBs too, only I didn’t know it! (heehee!) Thanks for the explanation and for your kind words. I’ve got your blog bookmarked so I can check in with you regularly and see your progress. Take care.
Ilike your blog, Diana-in-England! I’m really new to the blogging stuff, and sometimes feel I may have bitten off more than I needed to take on.
Thank you, Nan. Don’t get stressed about your blogging, just have fun with it. Our blogs are mainly for ourselves, although it’s lovely to have the support of others who stop by. Take care.
Your blog is SO nice! And I love your user name… very pretty!
Thank you very much. You are so sweet!
I’m linking to your site from mine–I want to see how all your UFOs turn out!

I love your work.. I was looking at your gallery today, absolutely beautiful work!! I like that you have to make a conscious effort to not get distracted mid-project.. makes me feel like I’m not alone in the world, lol!
Hello! I have been lurking without commenting! I am almost finished my first quilt.
Great site! Love your gallery!
I’m glad you’re here, lurking or commenting or whatever you like!
Thank you for visiting and for your kind words. I like your blog, too.
Hi there!.. Beautiful work!!… something which is rare nowadays… was curious do you sell or make to order or is it just a hobby?
All the best!
Ina
Hi, Ina, thanks for visiting my blog and leaving such a nice comment! Sewing is a very relaxing and stress-free hobby for me, and I only sew for the love of the craft. I have sewn commercially in the past, but then it turned into “work” instead of “play,” and I didn’t enjoy that so much. Best wishes.
Hello Rosewillow – thanks for leading me to your blog! I have a machine which you may like for your collection – its gathering dust and just not appreciated!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I’m so pleased that you are interested in quilting. If I can help in any way, please let me know!
I have the fabric ‘stash’ have the machine – I have a cut pattern – I just need the oomph to do it now!
