My Chocolate brown project for Judy’s Monochromatic Challenge is turning out to be lots of fun, and the blocks are going together very quickly — almost as fast as I could eat real chocolate! And that’s really fast! Nigel the quilting dog is helping to plan the layout. He likes the “design floor” much better [...]

My Sunflowers quilt top is finished — right on deadline for my own little Quiltathon to join in with Judy Laquidara’s big Quiltathon. I was able to make the quilt top larger by adding four borders, and it’s now 50 inches square. The yellow print below is going to be the binding and backing, the [...]
Respecting the Scraps

Bonnie Hunter wrote in her “Scrap User’s System” article that our scraps are worth just as much as new yardage from the quilt shop. For me in England, that’s £9.60 per metre, or approximately $14.25 per yard in US dollars. That’s way too much value to toss into the waste basket, and it really gave [...]

I worked on my Grandmother’s Flower Garden for 15 minutes this morning, according to my new plan. I am feeling very enthusiastic and decided not to wait until 2011! Some of these fabrics are so precious to me. I feel very sentimental about the scraps that bring back lovely memories. ..a blouse that I made [...]
Another recycled bath mat

My first recycled bath mat has been so popular with my husband and daughter that I’ve had to make a second one for the other bathroom. I hate to throw away anything that still has an ounce of use left in it. This was an old and faded mat, still usable but not very pretty. [...]
Patriotic blocks update

This week I have finished 53 blocks for my Patriotic string quilts. I need 96 blocks to make two quilts. When I was laying the blocks out on the table, I realised that they look more interesting with different red centre strips mixed together instead of keeping them in strict matching sets. So I pulled [...]
Patriotic blocks on the Design Wall

This week I’ve been sewing Patriotic fabric string blocks. I couldn’t decide whether I liked the Bright Red centres or the Dark Red centres better, so I’m making both. The blocks look a bit wonky right now because they haven’t been trimmed down to their proper size of 9.5 inches yet. Bright Red: Dark Red: [...]

Hooray, I’ve finished my pink and green top, and I have something positive to contribute to today’s Stash Reports. This was taken early this morning, and it’s a beautiful day in Yorkshire! Finished size is 54 x 72 inches. It’s the HeartStrings pattern, starting with 10-inch muslin squares for backing and then trimming the squares [...]

I finished quilting the Turquoise Scraps birthday quilt today, just in time to deliver it to our oldest daughter when she came over for dinner and cake to celebrate her birthday this evening. Here’s the front… and the back… and our beautiful Birthday Girl. She likes her quilt. Happy 19th Birthday, Sweetheart! Happy Quilting!

This week I finished the Turquoise Scraps top for my older daughter’s new birthday quilt. It’s a lap quilt and measures 55 inches square. The inspiration for this quilt came from several sources. The basic block is the Stash Buster by Buttonberry, which I made half-size. The free pattern for the original size block is [...]
