Many, many people have asked me if I could help them find the instruction manual for the Brother Window-Matic sewing machine. Well, today I am very pleased to say — I’ve got it!
My original copy of the manual is a fragile document, really just a few thin pieces of paper that have only just survived the last 60 or so years since the machine was new. My husband has very kindly scanned this document for me, and I want to share it with anyone who wants it. Here is a link to a free PDF file that you can print out. This is my gift to you — enjoy!!
Happy Quilting!

I just took a 136 year old manual to the copy shop, and printed out some copies of it, so that I can leave my manual alone. Maybe one day, I’ll figure out how to scan mine and turn it into a pdf, till then, I can just snail mail a copy to someone, if they need it. The Vintage Japanese Yahoo group would appreciate a copy of the pdf of your machine.
Very kind of you to download this for us. I’m saving it and will use it on my similar machine. Thanks so much!
I’m happy to help! 🙂
Thank you so much, I am a beginner sewer who inherited my grandmothers 1950s same machine as yours, but sadly no instructions so this is really going to be very useful for me to learn more but also keep good care of my lovely Brother
This is wonderful that you are offering this for free – I suspect some may take it and try to make a profit from it – as I see on many sewing sites. I love to see manuals offered for free – not just becaue they are for free, but they enable so many people out there that don’t know the basics or the machine they have/inherited to get involved in the art of ‘making’ just anything let alone restore and use the old machines!
I’m really happy to share! So glad this is useful to you!
Hi Dianne, I’m now a proud owner of a manual to go with my 1950s brother. Thanks. I have a question, I am following patterns and doing mostly clothes on it, and is it possible to do a zig-zag stitch? I’ve been cheating in meantime with pinking shears.
Hi Charlotte, this model is straight stitch only, so sadly no ability to zig zag. Maybe you could do French seams? Sorry, I know that’s not much help.
