I’ve had a “Martha Stewart” moment.  😉  My little daughter is having some friends over after school on Friday for a Christmas party.  For the party bags, I decided to do a bit more stashbusting and make a mini Christmas stocking for each child.

I made a paper pattern based on a stocking-shaped tree ornament and enlarged it (with pencil and ruler) to the size I needed.  It had to be big enough to hold the party favours — a small set of coloured pencils, a Christmas cracker, and a chocolate Santa’s Elf.

The design is very simple and basic.  It’s unlined, without batting, and I improvised a cuff from regular cotton fabric instead of fleece (because I didn’t have any fleece and didn’t want to buy anything extra).  The hangers are bits of ribbon left over from making doll clothes.  Finished dimensions are approximately 10 inches tall by 7 inches wide, and I used assorted prints from my Christmas fabric stash.

They have turned out really cute (if I may say so myself).  My daughter is very pleased, and she has already claimed my test model as the stocking she wants for herself.

A nice side benefit from this project is that I have enough scraps left over to make a cheerful Christmas-themed scrappy quilt.   But…that’s for next year!

Happy Sewing!  🙂
